Jewelry Lasting Generations; My Inspiration Behind the Brand

I've always enjoyed how every jewelry piece tells a deep story. High quality jewelry pieces can be passed down generations. My favorite pieces in my collection are the pieces I was gifted from my Grandmother's collection. Jewelry has always been something that I feel really makes me complete. I feel naked without it. 

When I started Badfish, some of the first stones I was setting were from my late Grandmother's collection. Jewelry was something she always loved and something we truly bonded over. When she passed, I was gifted all of her costume jewelry. I learned how to solder that year and saw so much potential in broken, cheap pieces that could be complete enhanced with the addition of Sterling Silver. This was one of the first Badfish Rings ever made! I was able to make multiples of this design because the stone originally came from a beaded bracelet.

I titled this design, Mimi's Disco Ball dedicated to her. She is someone who made me realize how much value our lives have, and how we only have one life.  She taught me to chase my dreams as hard as I can. Without her, I wouldn't been so interested in jewelry. I am doing this journey for her. 

The idea of her costume jewelry sparked an even stronger awareness of the need to upcycle jewelry that did not have a use anymore. Without the use of upcycling, eventually these pieces could get thrown into a landfill if I didn't find a way to repurpose them.

 I loved upcycling, and continue running with it. This led to creation of our Surfite line. The first Surfite rings were some of my favorite creations. They were so colorful and unique. Now, we've improved the design from simple soldered rings, to beautiful casted Signet rings!

We could've gone the easy, cheap route, the money fueled route. But I decided that it was extremely important to make the highest quality pieces so our pieces can tell a story later down the line.
