What is Surfite? | How Badfish is Making a Difference

A Closer Look at Surfboard Resin: Surfite? What's that!

At Badfish, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s at the heart of what we do. That’s why our surfite collection means so much to us.

Surfite is made from the resin waste created during the glassing stage of surfboard production—the part that makes boards waterproof and colorful. While beautiful, this byproduct is incredibly dense and difficult to break down, so it often ends up in landfills.

Our founder, Kasey, saw the potential to turn this waste into something meaningful. While visiting her friend Justin Perry’s shaping studio, she collected 60 pounds of discarded resin and began experimenting in her garage in New Jersey. The result? Vibrant stones full of layered drips and colors, with each one completely unique.

Since then, Badfish has recycled over 200 pounds of surfite from shapers across the globe, transforming what would have been trash into wearable art. Every ring tells a story: of surfing culture, sustainability, and creativity.

By wearing surfite, you’re not just adding a one-of-a-kind piece to your collection, you’re helping give new life to materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
